Abstract
A person struggles with a wide range of questions in an effort to find his identity because the issue of identity attracts significant varying debate. However, there are no precise answers to these questions and this leads to the problem of personal identity. Some of the common questions that lead to this problem include, who am I? What makes me a person and not a nonperson? What makes my person exist from one time to the other? And what makes one person different from the other? Additionally, a personal identity can be explained from the numerical identity perspective. Numerical identity of a person can be described by its definition, property, and accident. Body continuity theory and the basic memory theory can be used to explain personal identity. These theories among others have played an important role in assisting people understand their true identity other than identifying their identity with the different roles they play

The objection to this theory is that it assumes that a person can be dead but still have his mind intact. It implies that the brain is not the locale of personal identity. Additionally, the physical structure of the brain changes with time but the neurons are considerably stable. On the other hand, basic memory theory suggests that X and Y are the same because they have the same memories. It implies that a prince will remain a prince even if he is put in the cobbler’s body and it tends to make it possible for post-mortem
