In the novel, Bless Me, Ultima, by Rudolfo Anaya, a young Mexican-American boy named Antoñio Márez and his family take in an old women named Ultima to live with them. Ultima is a curandera, a spiritual healer, who guides Antoñio through all his ups and downs and wonders about life as any young boy questions.
