BP Oil Spill Many individuals tend to forget why we need to take care of our precious home and often find ourselves harming what God intended to be the necessary resources to sustain all basic life. We personally wonder how the world would be if humans weren’t around to demolish our environment that leads to undesired situations and in contrast, vision a place in which everything is radiant green. Humans are considered to be the principle nuisance for everything thats erroneous in our current world thats causing a tremendous burden for future generations. This oil spill became known for unleashing the nation’s worst nightmare that caused eleven workers to be killed on the Deepwater Horizon rig as well as the worst offshore environmental catastrophe. According to the article provided by NPR, “5 Years After BP Oil Spill, Effects Linger And Recovery Is Slow,” it describes how “oil gushed from the Macondo well for nearly three months. More than 3 million barrels of Louisiana light crude fouled beaches and wetlands from Texas to Florida, affecting wildlife and livelihoods.” Oil flowed in the ocean for 87 days at the rate of 1,000 to 5,000 barrels per day making it the largest accidental spill the world has seen and making it the most massive mess to clean up. BP has been left with the responsibility to pay for the clean up and return the marine environment back to its original state though it may seem impossible. Oil has found its way beneath the sand just offshore causing the roots of mangrove trees to be coated in oil thus leading them to die. NPR says, “without the mangroves to hold the islands together, within three years most of those islands were gone.” This demonstrates how humans have allowed for such disaster to happen that we are slowly killing our environment to the ground and running homes to other wildlife for selfish reasons. As well as that, the article states how federal government studies have shown that dolphins are getting ill and dying at a rapid pace than usual that have indicated signs of oil poisoning. This could be a result from the BP oil spill and reveals that we could possibly never escape the nightmares of life dying due to human activity. It is not certain of the things we will see in the future or whether we will ever recover from the disaster that has left majority of the marine inhabitants to face a greater problem that we have created for them.
