For example, it releases oxytocin and prolactin which produce a sensation that allows the mother to relax and it promotes a sense of attachment between the mother and the baby. Oxytocin also allows the uterus to return to its normal size. American Academy Pediatrics states some studies have shown that breastfeeding reduces rates of developing breast and ovarian cancer later in life. Studies have also found breastfeeding can reduce risk of developing type 2 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and cardiovascular diseases. It can also help the mother with losing weight. Breastfeeding allows the mother to burn
