According to RAINN, Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, an American is sexually assaulted every two minutes. Also, one out of every six American women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime (RAINN). People like Turner are the reason why these statistics are so high. Turner deserved to be charged with felony rape and to serve a full sentence in jail. This verdict was not reached because the judge believed that a long term sentence for Turner would have a "severe impact" on him. What about the severe impact left on the victim? What about the pain she felt when she was awoken and told she was raped unconsciously next to a dumpster? In her letter to Turner, the victim described her first shower after her assault, she said "I stood there examining my body beneath the stream of water and decided, I don’t want my body anymore. I was terrified of it, I didn’t know what had been in it, if it had been contaminated, who had touched it. I wanted to take off my body like a jacket and leave it at the hospital with everything else." The only person that left this crime with a severe impact was the poor woman.
