The definition of conflict is any struggle between opposing forces. Brutus does have conflict between other characters throughout the play, but Brutus struggles with internal conflict more than just the conflicts with other characters. An internal conflict is a psychological struggle within the mind of a character in a story or a play. Brutus has internal conflict by making the decision of killing Caesar, seeing Caesar’s ghost multiple times, dealing with the guilt of killing Caesar, then ultimately killing himself at the end of the play. In Act I scene ii, Brutus and Cassius are having a conversation, because Cassius notices that Brutus is having some problems. “That poor Brutus, with himself at war, forgets the shows of love to other men.” …show more content…
He begins to feel guilty. Brutus asks multiple people to kill him so he will be done with the war on himself. “What ill request did Brutus make to thee? To kill him, Clitus./” (V.v 10-11) This goes to show that Brutus is giving up. He does not want to fight anymore and show that he is noble. He also says throughout the entire play that Caesar is and or was a noble man but, Brutus is the one who killed Caesar. Brutus starts saying goodbye to everyone since he will be killed soon. At first Brutus wants someone to kill him so he will feel what Caesar felt when Brutus killed him. But after saying goodbye to everyone, he himself a ‘noble man’ kills himself. Brutus regrets killing Caesar because he wants to kill himself more than killing Caesar. He believes that if he kills himself everything will go away. By killing himself he did resolve his internal conflict. Brutus did resolve his internal conflict. He confessed to Cassius and his wife Portia that he himself is struggling with his thoughts and feelings, which make him feel he is at war with himself. He kills and sees the ghost of Caesar throughout the play, and deals with the guilt that makes him kill himself at the end of the play. Brutus may have killed his best friend Caesar and dealt with the guilt of it, but no matter if it was the noble way or not, he indeed resolve his internal
