Abstract

Bulimia Nervosa is a disorder that is characterized by a binge-purge cycle, which involves a period of intense consuming of large amounts of food and is followed by compensatory behavior. These actions are often driven by the need for control and fueled by an obsession with food intake and body image. A combination of cognitive behavioral therapy and medication has been proven to help treat this disorder. This paper will discuss the DSM-5 criteria, etiology, treatments and prognosis of treatment for bulimia nervosa.
