Amanda was a normal teen who made one mistake that impacted the rest of her life. She was using a webcam chat to meet new friends and showcase her singing skills. She met an anonymous “boy” online that she thought was somewhat her age. He convinced her to show her chest. Once she showed her chest he took a picture of it. He threatened her to show more, or he would show the picture to everyone. She refused and he kept his word. He sent the picture to the whole school. She felt alienated and moved schools because of the bullying from her classmates. Her stalker continued to follow her, and continued to send the photo. It soon lead to depression, drugs, alcohol, and cutting. Her dad found her once laying in a ditch, saying “she wanted to die so bad”. When she got home, she drank bleach and had to go to the hospital to have her stomach pumped. She soon moved although the harassment started again. Kids posted pictures of ditches and suggested to try different bleach. Soon she made a video called “My story:struggling, bullying, suicide, self harm”. It was a story of all the things that happened and what she went through. She put that video on youtube on September 7th. On October 10th she committed suicide in her hometown of Port Coquitlam. Suicide is the leading cause of deaths among young people, a statistic shows 4,400 deaths per year, for every suicide there is 100 suicide attempts according to bullyingstatistics.com.
