Burial was of huge importance in the ancient Greek religion. The Greeks mostly did not believe in heaven and hell, nor did they believe there was a big difference in the afterlife for good and bad people. However, the important part of death was whether they were buried or unburied. The unburied were forced to wander along the river Styx for eternity, unable to rest.
