How it all started
Larry Page's parents were both computer experts, so it was quite obvious that Larry was going to study computer engineering at Stanford University. That's where he met Sergey Brin. His home was full of computers that increased his fascination for technology at an early age. He was also interested in business and by the age of 12 he realized that he wanted to start a company.
As a research project at Stanford University, Larry Page and Sergey Brin created a search engine that listed results according to the popularity of the pages. They released Google in 1998, after raising $1 million dollars, from friends, family and investors. Google have now become one of the most popular search engines in the world, getting billions of searches every day.In 2011, Larry Page became the CEO of the company taking over from Eric Schmidt. Eric Schmidt will become the executive producer of the company and will advise Larry Page and Sergey Brin. Sergey Brin will work on new products and will remain as the co-founder of the company.
Evaluation:
I think Larry Page is a very good entrepreneur because he has set up a company which has given him a lot of profit. He had used $1 million dollars to set up the business and now he is a billionaire. Larry Page was successful because he setup a business and took a risk of investing into his business. Larry Page is good leader as he inspires his colleagues to do better at their jobs. Larry Page can recognise the importance of deals and understanding which one is worth chasing. He also had the determination to make the company no matter what happens, and this is why he was successful. However, Larry Page has made a mistake on social networking which has made him have a loss. Google wanted to buy Friendster in 2003 but they refused. Larry Page should have made his own social networking site. If he had done so they the likes of Facebook wouldn’t have stood a chance against them. Larry page now regrets not making a social network of their own as they would have made a lot of money if they did.
