The dictionary defines capitalism as "an economic system in which investment in and ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange of wealth is made and maintained chiefly by private individuals or corporations, especially as contrasted to cooperatively or state-owned means of wealth." Although the Bible does not mention capitalism by name, it does talk a lot about economic issues. For example, the whole section of the book of Proverbs and many of the parables of Jesus deal with economic issues. From there we learn a lot about what should be our attitude toward wealth, economic and business. The Bible also shows us a description of our human nature, helping us to evaluate the potential success or failure of an economic system in a society.
As the economy is part of our lives, we must evaluate it from a biblical perspective. When we use the Bible as our framework, we can begin to build the model for a government and an economy that liberates the human potential.
