1. Create one professional goal using the SMART goal setting techniques you learned in Week Two. How did the results of the Career Interest Profiler and Career Plan Building Activity on Competencies contribute to your professional goal development?
Goal: To become a subject matter expert in the Pacific region for my position working for the military.
S: My focus is to become a subject matter expert in the Pacific region.
M: I measure my progress by reading news articles and social media on a daily basis on each country about their respective issues.
A: This goal is attainable because it is something I like doing and decent at it.
R: The goal is realistic because my job requires me to be familiar with Pacific region. However, I want to achieve more by digging more in-depth on all the problems that are ongoing.
T: On my day off, I will take an hour of my day to read the news on the Pacific region and take some notes on articles that may develop into a crisis. During my working schedule, I will take my notes and information I have obtained to conduct researches.
The Career Interest Profiler provided me an idea of what I may be interested in. The Career Plan Building Activity on Competencies provided me what I am more suitable for. The results from the two tests help solidify my reasoning to become an Information Technician and have that motivation to compete in that field.
2. Describe how you will balance academic expectations and your personal and professional responsibilities.
There are few ways I balance academic expectations and my personal and professional responsibilities. One way is to write down all the academic expectations in one column, personal responsibilities in the second column, and professional responsibilities on the third column. Since I am a visual type of person, using this method allows me to manage my priorities that are most important to me. The other way for me to balance the academic and other responsibilities is using the tools I have learned in this lesson to prioritize my workload.
