Handling offender reports is another crucial role because there are a variety of reports that are necessary to ensure all the appropriate classification and supervision of the offender is being maintained and to ensure that all steps are being taken to ensure the successful completion of each program and treatment plan for the offender (Simmons, 2024). Probation officers in case management have a wide range of responsibilities that include assessment and case management, supervision and management, counseling and support, preparation and maintenance of case reports and legal documents, testing for drug use and reporting violations, providing resources and referrals, liaison, and monitoring. So, let us break these down to better understand what each role means. Assessment and case management is where the backgrounds, risks and needs of the offender are assessed and develop an appropriate rehabilitation plan by gathering information from various sources such as law enforcement, court records, and interviews that will help get a better understanding of the offenders circumstances and be able to set-up the best treatment plan for that individual.
