Sprezzatura and Gratia Castiglione is a man of sprezzatura and gratia. Sprezzatura means nonchalant and gratia means grace. He was the opposite of Machiavelli. A moment of sprezzatura could be scoring a touchdown without being touched once and then walking back to your side of the field. A moment of gratia could be like a ballet. Ballerinas are light on their feet and move with grace. I have experienced sprezzatura and gratia in my life before. When I go bowling and I line up for my shot, I throw the ball down the lane like it’s nothing and I get a strike. Does this always happen? It does not always happen. I can run up to eight miles without stopping. But I don't experience sprezzatura when I run eight miles. When I run the 5k(3.1 miles) competitions then I run with sprezzatura. With a large crowd of people, I pass up a lot of the people running. I’m not the fastest, so I don't finish in the top placings, but i’m getting closer and closer every race. When a person first starts conditioning or practicing for something, it will be nearly impossible to experience sprezzatura. But once the person has practiced it enough, most people can do it like it is nothing. Experiencing gratia may be a little bit harder to experience than sprezzatura. When I play chess, I experience sprezzatura and gratia. I think chess is a peaceful game of movement and strategy. It can get frustrating at times, when I set up a plan and then the other person makes an unexpected move. Then I will have to rethink my movements. Thats not sprezzatura. But when everything is going in my favor, I’m calm and ready to take the king with no struggle at all. If I win or lose at chess, I show gratia by shaking my opponents hand and telling them that it was a good
