The relationship between the US and Cuba during Castro’s reign was at an all time low, due to the US’s support for the former government and in addition due to the two countries having different policies, with one allowing private ownership, while the other implied that everything belonged to the State, however while the relationship with the US was tense, relations with the USSR increased due to both countries sharing similar ideologies and like the old saying goes:” The enemy of my enemy is my fries”. Sugar trades with the USSR opened, undermining the US economic block and in addition, the USSR established a foreign relations mission in Cuba, and they constructed a military base their, thus having good military, economical, and foreign relations, but the question has to come into mind, what were the effects of Castro’s economical …show more content…
All political dissent and opposition were suppressed using force. Many members of the upper and middle class felt betrayed by these measures and chose to immigrate to the United States. At the same time, Castro expanded the country’s` social services, extending tem to all classes of society on an equal basis. Services for Education and health were made free of charge for Cubans, and all citizens were guaranteed to be employed by the government. How ever, Castro had one fatal flaw in his domestic policies, the failure of the economy, as it failed to achieve significant growth, or reduce its dependence on the country’s main export, cane sugar. Economic policies were mainly focused on the bureaucracy headed by Castro, who was an novice economic manager. With industries considered inefficient and a culture labeled as stagnant.
