It is also a fact that the most dangerous part of fishing is just driving to the river or lake. Just knowing where to catch trout does not always mean that the river or lake is safe or legal.
Troutman: “ I was fishing the Rogue River in eastern Oregon on a warm day and wearing waders. The water was cold and running rather fast. I had just landed a nice rainbow when I slipped on a rock and quickly went face down in the water. My waders filled quickly and before I could pick myself up I was in big trouble having been swept out into deep water by the current. I almost drowned that day, it was a real close call and I lost my favorite rod and reel.”
Troutman: “I was fishing a small river several years back in eastern Oregon, the name I have long ago forgotten. But I will never forget that sound as I stepped up the bank to find another fishing spot. Yep, it was Mr. Rattle Snake all coiled up about 1 foot from my left foot just in front. Another step and he would have nailed me I am sure. I had on shorts, no leg protection and wearing sneakers. I probably would have survived as my truck was not far away and on a fairly busy road.
