Cervical Cancer. Cervical Cancer is something that still rings through my ears today. One day during my 7th grade year my mother, Brooke, picked me up from school and mentioned that she had surgery on her cervix. Her Gynecologist (OB/GYN) found cancer cells that needed to be removed. Being equally curious and worried I got home and did extensive research on the cancer and the type of doctor she went to. After hours of reading stories and many women’s experiences, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to become Gynecologist when I was older. Many women explain these visits as “awkward” (‘14 Women Sound Off”) or uncomfortable and I definitely wanted to change that humiliating experience for them. There are many other doctor/nursing jobs that …show more content…
Navy and realistically if we were to still be together by the time I graduate, I would travel to where he will be stationed and pick up college/my career there. I’m choosing to start with Midwifery because it is easier to start at a higher nursing level, versus starting in a direct path to be Gynecologist immediately after high school graduation. I can acheive my goal by attending a college similar NYU and advance my career while still being in school. So far in high school I have made good grades, while still having some challenging times. The average GPA (grade point average) and SAT/ACT scores are higher at NYU than other schools I could also attend like Seattle University. NYU’s average GPA is 3.75+, SAT score is 600-699, and ACT score is 30-36 ("Big Future”). Maintaining a high GPA in highschool will be a challenging for me, but I know I can accomplish it with hard work. I will be applying to for many scholarships and I will need to receive students loans (97% of Freshmen apply for Financial aid at NYU), while working as a CNA to afford college. I am aware that I will be exhausted while in the process of working and school, but I know it will be worth it to reach my career goals. While on the topic of money, NYU does offer financial aid counseling and has the cheapest estimated amount for supplies, books, transportation, etc. of $5,114 out of all the colleges I …show more content…
My hours are very subjective depending on where I live, the amount of clients I have, and many other factors. Non-traditional hours make things quite unpredictable because I will be on call 24 hours a day, making for early mornings and late nights. I will also be traveling to women's houses daily for home check ups as a home birth midwife, instead of working in a hospital. By this time in my life, when I’m about 30 years old, I will be married to Francisco, with hopefully a few children. We will have an estimated salary for both of us combined, along with my side job of being a CNA, making around $197,765. Earning that much money together gives us the option to live a .5 million house and both owning a $100,000 dollar car. Even with having a $14,474 monthly amount due for utilities, entertainment, debt payments, savings, subscriptions, medical, groceries, etc. We would be bringing home around $2,000 extra a month. Making this decent amount of money will allow us and our family to live comfortably all year long and in a quality environment. I also have a chance of making even more than the estimated amount of money because of extended hours and if I have a higher educational degree versus other local Midwives. If I achieve and maintain those assets I will have the opportunity to earn more
