In Nightjohn by Gary Paulsen, there are numerous significant events that occur in chapter six, seven, and four. To begin, chapter six starts with Nightjohn teaching Sarny the letter H. Nightjohn plans on escaping the plantation; so he makes shoes with rawhide, rags, lard, and pepper. Progressing through the next chapter, Nightjohn escapes, Sarny gets her troubles, and Sarny is miserable throughout autumn. Remarkably, Nightjohn comes back to Waller's plantation and starts to take Sarny to school—the school is in between branches, bushes, and trees.
