These areas became successful due to their decisions. There was a diminishment of the Native American population in the east as a result of many events. In the Europeans and Native American’s search for gold as well as other treasures, brought in a lot of physical damage and sicknesses. Initially the Indians provided commerce and safety, for the English but that changed as a result of the settlements grew larger. (Schultz, 2014). According to Schultz (2014), “In Jamestown, for instance, relations between the Powhatan Confederacy and the first settlers were generally nonviolent until of Jamestown provoked Powhatan’s successor, Opechancanough, to attack” (p. 50). This got worse, and the Englishmen made sure that if any Indian who got in their way in their rivalry of any property, would be killed. The European powers were ferociously defensive of any of their assets within the New World. They did not care what they had to do even if it meant the death of the Indians. England started the indentured servitude domestics by the 1680 time frame as requested by the superior of labor by the colonists, and it grew lesser by 1700. The main purpose of this type of labor was because it was cheaper. Although there was a benefits between the indentured servitude and landowner, problems did take place. Some ran away while others got sick and were no longer able to perform their duties. What good is it to complete a contract if you are too sick when his or time is up? Due to demand of laborers, the colonists from North America had to look into the slave trade system. Laws were made to start a society for slaves; thereby, making it a primarily as a racial type of establishment. The new law that took effect in 1662 specified that if a mother was a slave when she had a child, then that child would grow up to be a slave too. This would indeed add to the population of slaves (Schultz, 2014).
