Discussion:
The chemical reaction that happened in the experiment is, it amylase breaks down the enzymes in the saliva. The Benedict's test, is the test to figure out whether the glucose was in our substance. The IKI was used to test whether starch was in the substance. The chemical reaction that happened in the lab, was the color changes of the solution. If the result is negative, that means there is no solution involved. The starch was broken down into glucose by the saliva amylase which known as a enzyme. The reaction was confirmed by adding the solution and changing the color. The IKI test demonstrated that the amylase breaks down starch into glucose. We also had a negative test, which showed no starch in the saliva. The benedict’s test

The result for IKI added into saliva with starch was negative, which shows that there is no starch left in the solution. After mixing starch and saliva, the starch will break down into sugars by the amylase. The result of adding benedict solution into saliva with starch is negative, shows that there is no glucose left in the solution. Boiled saliva with starch was then tested by IKI. The result was positive which means there is starch left in the solution. This result tells people that the boiling process kills the enzyme. Therefore, the saliva didn’t react with starch. Benedict solution was added into the starch with the boiled saliva. The result was negative which shows that there is no glucose in the solution due to the fact increasing temperature changed the structure of amylase. It is important to test saliva for starch and sugars before the experiments, because the saliva should not have starch and sugars in there. This would make the result accurate. Therefore, the saliva should be tested with starch and benedict solution. The enzyme will be killed by the boiling process. Boiling changes the shapes of the enzymes that are required for microorganisms to live. It also kills the bacteria. Therefore, the water would be
