The stage was set in 1893 for the Chicago World’s fair to be the greatest gathering of technology, culture and commerce of the century. The 1893 Chicago World’s fair or the “The World’s Columbian Exposition” was meant to commemorate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus arriving in the Americas. In the 19th century large fair style gatherings were a popular format of event to share new ideas and make money with the Chicago World’s fair no exception having capitalist intentions. The event however; was also a response to France’s 1899 Exposition Universelle and the opening of the Eiffel tower to show The United States’ prowse in engineering, architecture and technology to prove that the United States are a world power similar to Great Britain
