In a world of cars, clothes, looks, and status; money is important. In Chris’s world of nature, self-reliance, intuition, and Alaska; money is not important. Through Krakauer’s telling of Chris’s story, chapter four shows a specific time that Chris shows true Transcendentalism views in direct correlation to Civil Disobedience and Thoreau. McCandless never spends absorbent amount of time earning wages, nor does he care if he has any money at all. McCandless is transcendental for his morals of following his own mind and not allowing the government or others to dictate his actions.
