Islam originated in Mecca and Medina. The leader or messenger of Islam is Muhammad. Muhammad was born in approximately 570-571 AD. God sent the angel Gabriel to deliver the message to Muhammad to preach to the people about Islam. Muhammad and his followers spread the teachings of Islam throughout the Arabian peninsula. The Koran (Quran) is the holy book of Islam. Some of the basic teachings are the five pillars of Islam. The first pillar is the declaration that, "there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is His prophet." The second pillar is to pray five times a day. The third pillar is to give charity to the poor or a freewill donation. The fourth pillar is to fast the month of Ramadan. The fifth pillar is to make hajj or a pilgrimage to Mecca. The influence that Islam had on society is that, “it is the principles outlining the mission of Prophet Muhammad that made a global change in world’s scientific realm and world’s social and spiritual culture that formed the Golden Age of Islam, seventh to the fifteenth
