The Purpose of inflammation is to clear out the damage caused by harmful stimuli such as damaged cells, pathogens, or irritants, and to initiate cell repair. Inflammation is a natural process that needs to occur for the healing process to begin. When people think of inflammation, they normally think about acute inflammation which starts rapidly and quickly becomes severe. On the other hand, chronic inflammation means long term inflammation and this can last either months or years. Chronic inflammation is what my blog is concerned with. This form of inflammation simmers inside us for long periods of time and in the process it causes damage which can lead to various diseases and eventually death. Drugs:
NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) Examples include naproxen, ibuprofen and aspirin.
Acetaminophen (paracetamol, Tylenol)
Corticosteroids (steroids)
ImSAID’s (Immune Selective Anti-Inflammatory Derivative)
Herbal Anti-Inflammatories:
Turmeric (Curcuma Longa) - This one is my favorite. I take curcummin which is derived from turmeric and for me personally, I’ve had a noticeable difference in the level of inflammation that I experience.
Cannabis
Ginger
Hyssop Hyssopus
Harpagophytum procumbens (devil’s claw, wood spider or grapple plant)
Other Treatments:
Applying ice
Fish oil (Omega-3)
Green tea
Tart cherries
