Early in the war in the North, some industries had suffered since connections with the South had been cut off. The textile industry couldn’t receive cotton and the shoe factories which had made shoes for slaves weren’t able to make a profit. On the other hand, some industries such as boot-making, shipbuilding, and iron-making had prospered. For most people, however, the war had brought about inflation. Moreover, in general, there were a lot less young men in the United States because of the massive deaths that had occurred during the war and several towns were completely wiped out of young men. Due to this low supply of young men there was a weaker labor force in the United States.
In conclusion, it can be seen that the Civil War could be considered the second American Revolution in the economic, political, and social aspects. Socially, the main result of the civil war was the abolition of slavery which meant that slaves had become freed men and had been moved up in the social order along with women. But, they had not gained equal rights to white men which would later result in a movement to gain these rights. This had brought us to the political aspect of change where the Democratic Party had supported slavery and the Republican Party had been anti-slavery.
