Each day I assist in helping teacher teach two year olds at a daycare center. The classroom consists of eight children. Her way of teaching, organizing, motivating, and discipline is not the approach I would follow. I have learned the opposite of what not to do and will incorporate into my own classroom management plan. I have been assisting her for four months and the more I learn the more I plan to operate my classroom more effectively. I will include in this paper my personal philosophy of classroom management, classroom organization, rules for students’ behavior and attendance, and explanation of classroom management plans.
My philosophy for the classroom will be using both a constructivist theory and a behaviorist theory for both is very beneficial. The students play a big role in the decisions as well, because it relies on which theory they learn better with behaviorist or constructivist. When having to choose, I will choose the student-centered approach. Students have the ability to learn faster with much needed hands on experience. Not only is it a learning experience it can also be a fun way to discover new things and make it more eager to learn more.
I believe classroom organization is best used with the behaviorist theory. It is more likely the student continues positive behavior when they earn a positive reaction for being quiet during a lesson, staying seated, or raising of hand. Also rewarding the students with praise, such as a snack, extra recess, or pizza day. That way the students will know that you appreciate them for following the rules as instructed.
A great way to manage discipline is my implementing the color chart. The color chart is a daily chart that each student will receive according to how they behavior was for that day. The colors are green, (good) yellow (warning) blue (note to parent) red (referral to office). After three times of being warned to stop misbehaving the student will go to the board and move his or her car to the next level. If the student acts in a way that disrupts the class/school, harms another student or teacher then immediate action will be taken which will results in automatically red chart (referral to office). I
