A prevalent issue in today's society is the use of fossil fuels and the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Transportation, deforestation, and technology are all factors when it comes to climate change. This issue is significant to me due to the fact that I was born and raised in California, and the recent drought there can be linked to global warming. Every day more and more CO2 is released and the world is becoming warmer and warmer. However, there are steps that people can take to counter the devastation these gases will cause.
One of the causes of climate change includes electricity production which is responsible for more than 25% of CO2 emissions. The modern car accounts for about 20% of fossil fuel released in the United States. Burning a single gallon of gasoline produces 20 pounds of CO2 and the destruction of forest for wood, charcoal, and paper products contributes to the mass deforestation and release of carbon dioxide in our world. The United States alone contributed almost 7,000 million metric tons of CO2 in 2014. There are consequences from global warming, which include water and food

The drought in California is an example of the severity of climate change. The result from this is increased price of water and even food, and new regulations on how much water each individual can use, and eventually if the drought continues people will be forced to move to a area with more water. Additionally entire species can be affected by global warming. The constant rise in sea level is bleaching many of the coral reefs. This is damaging the ecosystem there and making it impossible for many of the species to sustain themselves, other species in the ocean also rely on coral reefs. However, if everyone can make a few changes and be conscious about the effects of releasing CO2 it is possible to avoid some of these
