Leadership can be defined as a process in which the individual attempts to purposely influence others in order to accomplish a common goal (Wong et al., 2013). Although being a leader encompasses much more when looking at it from a nursing perspective. Nurse leaders must be willing to lead by example, rise to the challenge, motivate, be open to new ideas, and collaborate with others while working towards a common goal (McKenzie & Manley, 2011). My preceptor was identified as a clinical leader because the qualities and skills she displayed in the clinical setting correlated with the skills shown in nurse leader. She demonstrated strong communication skills, motivation, courage, trust, loyalty, teamwork, accountability and respect to all individuals
