The Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the National Association for the Deaf created the Code of Professional Conduct which is the new name for the set of rules and guideline for sign language interpreters, known as the Code of Ethics in the past. These rules are for keeping professionalism for interpreters in their careers. I will be going through each of these and explaining their meaning. These are to be used in medical, law and education fields.

This means an interpreter needs to be appropriate in behavior and also appearance as well as avoiding problems. Interpreters should talk with appropriate individuals about the situation at hand to interpret right. Dismiss jobs if cannot complete due to emotional, mental, or physical factors. Do not do any drugs of any kind that are mind-altering before, or during an appointment.
The fourth principle is respect for clients. Interpreters must have and show respect towards clients. Interpreters must honor client's preferences in interpreting and selection of interpreters. Also interpreters must think about clients needs in terms of language preferences and how to present messages. They also must always be professional when with a client. If interpreters are thinking about bringing an intern to an appointment, they must receive permission from the client.
The fifth principle is respect for your colleagues. This guideline is all about respecting your colleagues, interns and students within interpreting. Colleagues are to stay civil with each other. Interpreters and other should support and encourage each other. If bringing an intern to an appointment get permission from colleagues before the appointment
