The huge price tag on it and, it being such a risky investment is what sways their opinion so much. All the extra time and money spent pursuing a college diploma will leave them worse off than they were before they set foot on campus (Mcardle). There is many reasons why college tuition is at such a high price today. colleges are spending more and more money on their athletic teams. the amount of players from every team has risen sharply. Since 1980 the number of womens soccer programs has soared from 80 to 956 (Alger).those teams often cost the school a large portion of money. Administration is also to blame for college being at the price it is today. since 1980, the number of administrators per student at colleges has about double (Alger). Tuition pays for all those administrators having more of them means higher bills for students. This issue was addressed and fixed for a short period of time. After World War 2 the GI Bill gave free education to about 2 million veterans. It benefited the veterans greatly, it was also good for the economy and country. Bernie Sanders, an Independent, represents Vermont in the U.S. Senate and is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president. Had said in a interview with the Washington Post “scholars say that this investment was a major reason for the high productivity and economic growth our nation enjoyed during the postwar years. And, in certain states, such as California and New York, tuition was so low that college was practically free for much of the 20th century.” (Sanders).
