There have been many ideas proposed on how to combat climate change. The 3 ideas our group has chosen is the Emissions trading scheme, Electricity usage and vehicle fuel efficiency.
The Emissions Trading scheme is a market based approach used to control pollution by setting a limit on the amount of a specific pollutant that is allowed to be released. This limit is allocated or sold to firms in the forms of emissions permits. The firms are there to hold the number of permits equivalent to their emission.
The Transfer of permits is referred to as a trade. In effect, the buyer is paying a charge for polluting, while the seller is being rewarded for having reduced emissions.
A good amount of people in Australia are against this idea, as it will cost polluters more money for the more pollution they let out. An average family could be paying $9.90 per week more than their usual payments.
The largest source of greenhouse gases is electric power generation. The average home actually contributes more to global warming than the average car. This is because much of the energy we use in our homes comes from power plants which burn fossil fuel to power our electrical products. This is why Reducing electricity usage in our lives is important. To reduce the amount of electricity used we can :
- Switch to energy efficient lighting
- Improve the efficiency of home appliances
- Reduce energy needed for heating and cooling.
Not only does these ideas reduce
