While fighting for their country during World War II they homosexual men and women had to fight for two different battles: one for their country and one for their right to serve. Homosexual men and women were not aloud to serve for their country during the time period. Being homosexual was actually frowned upon in that time period. Anti-homosexual policies were created which called for witch hunts, dehumanizing questionings, psychiatric treatments, and suspects of being homosexual were thrown in to the “queer stockades.” After all of that, there was one last humiliating thing that was done to them, they were dishonorably discharged and officially registered as a sex pervert for the rest of their life. …show more content…
The documentary Coming Out Under Fire relates to this unit because the documentary is based on homosexual men and women during World War II and their struggles while fighting for their country. In school when kids learned about homosexuals they had learned that they were ill people. They had even learned about sexual predators that went after little boys. We had actually watched a video talking about sexual predators and how easy it was for them to get to know the little boys and then end up sexually assaulting them.
