Commercial drone photography has soared in popularity in the last few years, as small, uncrewed aerial vehicles have become easier and cheaper to own and operate. From vistas to cityscapes, a drone's eye view of the landscape can benefit artistic and commercial photographers alike. Drones allow photographers to easily capture angles and perspectives that previously required cranes, booms, or light aircraft to reach.

However, there are rules and regulations attached to ensure the safe and orderly piloting of drones in the United Kingdom for use in photography. Typically, you cannot walk in unprepared and sign up to be a Commercial Drone Pilot. Special training is required for some operations before a Permission is granted.

Once you have been granted permission to fly by the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) you will also have to renew this special allowance annually. Your right to fly commercial drones can be revoked at any time by the discretion of the CAA.
