1. Discuss and interpret the findings of the above tools. Do you see any patterns/inconsistencies between the tools?
Conflict Management tool: I scored the highest in the collaborating category at 12 and coming in second I scored a 9 in the accommodating category (McShane, 2001). Collaborating style is where issues are solved in ways that provide positive benefits for all those involved (Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), n.d.). Each side gets what they want and upset feelings are limited. Ideally, this is the category you want to score the highest in. Accommodating style is giving in to maintain relationships (IREM, n.d.). The score’s meaning is that I am a “capable communicator” that sometimes experiences some communication problems (Manktelow et al., 2017b). I feel that this assessment was pretty accurate representation of my communication skills. I really have no problem with communicating with others and I feel that I do a good job, however, I do find that sometimes I could have said something better or been more understanding. An acronym that is used is KISS (Keep It Simple and Straightforward) (Manktelow et al., 2017b). Discuss how two of the four online assessment topics above are reflected in your job description. Conflict management and communication are reflected in the registered nurse position through being a manager/leader and through always using communication to work with the patients, families, and other staff members. Through being the one in charge during a shift, I have to take on the role dealing with any conflict that arises between staff members, staff and patients, and patients and families. Having the abilities and skills to deal with conflict and confrontation is something I am working on and feel is one of my weak spots. However, as I grow as a nurse and gain experience, I feel that I am getting better at standing my ground for what is right. I feel that being knowledgeable on the topic of disagreement is very important in order to come to agreement and conclusion. As a nurse, I am constantly communicating with someone (another nurse, aid, doctor, family member, the patient, etc.). Being effective at communicating and making sure your point you want to get across is understood is extremely important. This aids me in my time management. If I get a point across that is understood the first time, I do not have to waste time later re-explaining myself. Another main communication aspect, is communicating with providers. Being able to collaborate and effectively communicate with other interdisciplinary personnel is essential in providing the best possible care
