1.1 Identify the different reasons people communicate
Examples of why people communicate
To gain reassurance and acknowledgement – Giving a child reassurance will help them to develop.
To build relationships - People communicate to make new relationships the way we speak to them at first may make them feel welcome or overlooked.
To maintain relationships – Each time we talk to a child we are maintaining our relationship with them.
To gain and share information – The information you receive and give will help you carry out your work effectively.

Using different techniques of communication with different children. When you treat all the children the same it is not necessarily fair as all children have got different needs and want different things therefore you need to balance this in order to communicate with each child on a different level because of age, needs and ability. Some children or adults might interpret communication methods in different ways because of their culture and maybe the way they use their ways.
3.2 Identify barriers to effective communication.
Barriers that could effective communication are * Learning /disability difficulties – A child might have autism which could stop them from communicating effectively and might need visual aids to help them communicate. * Hearing impairment – Parent or child might have deafness in one or both ears. * Visual sight – A parent or child that has no visual sight or poor vision * Other language – you may need an interpreter to help communicate. * Personality – If they are shy lacks self-esteem and confidence. * Jargon – using words that they do not understand. * Information overload – to much information at one time * Learning and speech impediment – A child that finds it hard to communicate through speech can overcome
