I’ve been expecting you” Finny says, (42:20- 43:46). The movie did not incorporate that scene that gives us a understanding about what went on ahead in Gene's state of mind, contrasted with the novel, instead they skipped ahead to three weeks in the scene where, Gene goes to Boston to visit Finny. The movie forgot one of the most vital part of the story because of the unfortunate accident and how Gene manages the blame would have had a more better impact and effect on the movie. Another contrast between the novel and the movie is Gene's encounter with Leper. In the novel after Leper is released from the army, he goes to Vermont where he lives and is confronted by Gene. An example that shows what happens to Leper state of mind after he "escaped" from the army is, when Gene goes to visit Leper at his "Christmas Location" (Leper's home in Vermont) by taking the train, bus and walking. Gene goes for a stroll with Leper after their meal and Leper all of a sudden starts crying, unable to control himself anymore. “Hoarse, cackling sobs broke from him;another ounce of grief and he would have begun tearing his country- store clothes” (chapter 10, pg 148).
