Compare and Contrast Essay
Myself quitting my job and Sammy quitting his job have a lot of differences, and a lot of similarities. There are huge differences, and also small differences too. Either way, they're both different in some way. Some differences between me and Sammy are that I walked out with a bang, while he folded up his apron and set the bow on top of the folded apron. When I quit my job, I made a whole scene because I wanted the elderly people to realize how bad of people they are and the service they provided. All of this was happening with a loud tone of voice. While Sammy just sat everything down on the counter and just walked out like nothing happened. When I quit, I didn't have anything to lay down because I spent my money on the whole uniform I had to wear to work. But I did have a badge that had my name on it, which I threw across the whole floor and told him I quit. When I got home, the manager called my phone and told me I had to put in my two weeks, I told him thats fine but I never showed up for the two weeks. We were always short of some people at work and that made them even shorter. That made them fall back alot in providing the elderly people with their food, which made them wait longer to receive their food. Other than the differences between both of them, they do have some similarities too. One similarity that pops up in my mind is that my parents reacted the same way Sammy's would have. When I quit my job, I just told my parents I quit the job and didn't tell them all in detail. That same night I got the largest lecture of my life, stating "How am I ganna pay for my phone bill, car insurance, etc. My parents told me to start looking for a new job that same night, and they gave me until the end of the week to find myself a job. Luckily, I found a job at O'Reillys Auto Parts, which currently I still work there. Im assuming Sammy got a long and boring lecture just like I did, because in the short story Lengel says "Sammy, you don't want to do this to your Mom and Dad". Another similarity, sounds like Sammy has an anger problem just like me. When Im mad at something or someone, I don't stop until I do something stupid. In the short story the narrator states "But it seems to me that once you begin a gesture it's fatal not to go through with it", I can make a great connection with this saying. Adding another difference, Sammy really loved his job at A & P until that embarrassment by Lengel, I personally didn't not like my job from day one. The first day on the job I was told I couldn't speak my language to the elderly Bosnian woman working with me. This Bosnian woman didn't really speak English well so It was way easier for us to communicate between one another. While Sammy had three hot women walk through his store and look at it, and not get a word said to him. But then again I worked at a retirement home so theres the part where I luck out. Overall, Sammy didn't have many
