Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston are very similar, but both have many differences. In S.E. Hintons story The Outsiders, there are two characters Johnny and Dallas that are very alike. They are both similar because they have abusive parents who do not pay any attention to them. They are also have many other differences, Dallas like to break laws and Johnny does not. Therefore, Johnny and Dallas have significant similarities and many differences.

For example, Dallas tries to break laws and never likes to do anything the legal way. Ponyboy says, “Johnny is wanted for murder, and Dallas has a record with the fuzz a mile long” (95). Dallas tries to break laws, which lead him to have a big record with the police. On the other hand, Johnny is the most law abiding greaser that tries to stay out of trouble. Ponyboy says, “And Johnny, who was the most law abiding of us, now carried a six inch switchblade in his back pocket” (34). Johnny is not like Dallas and tries not to break laws. Therefore, Johnny and Dallas are different when it comes to following laws. Another difference of Dallas and Johnny is that Johnny dies a hero and Dallas dies a hoodlum. Dallas robs a convenience store and ends up getting shot. Ponyboy says, “Two friends of mine died last night: one a hero, the other a hoodlum”(154). Dallas ends up dying a hoodlum after robbing a convenience store. Conversely, Johnny who is a hoodlum saves children and becomes a hero. Johnny end up being killed by his heroic actions.
