Mt Everest had been considered unclimbable and impossible by some and the ultimate climbing challenge by others. Before Edmund, explorers had attempted this challenge but no one had succeeded, some not making it back down. However on the 29th of May 1935, after a full 7 weeks of climbing, it was announced that Sir Edmund Hillary and his climbing partner, Tenzing Norgay had achieved the impossible by reaching the world’s highest peak. Their achievement became one of the twentieth centuries most defying moment. For the two climbers the title, ‘sporting and adventure heroes’ were given to them. The mountain being 29,035 feet high made climbing the mountain a true challenge. There were no sources of food or water available up in the high mountain,
