Abraham Lincoln was raised in Hodgenville, Kentucky, the United States into a poor family. He didn’t attend school for more than a year and thereafter had to learn to read and grow intellectually through his own life experiences. He had several different jobs growing up. These include a postmaster and shopkeeper before entering the realms of politics. Abraham Lincoln first served as a legislature from 1834 to 1836 before becoming an attorney. After being elected on November 6, 1860, as the 16th resident of the United States, he was a strong-willed individualwho advocated for a peaceful and unified America were men were treated with equal respect. Some societal issues in which he placed keen emphasis on included the abolition of slavery. Some characteristics which distinguished Lincoln from other leaders during his time is that he was defiant and willing to stand alone, and this angered others which disagreed with some of his values and rulings which also led him to be assassinated just as Julius Caesar.
