In most cases, it is very likely that a letter is more reliable than a poem. Letter’s use more descriptive language, and are usually more in depth. The level of historical accuracy between the two sources I am using is quite large as the poem misses out on some key points: something I will mention further on. I will be comparing ‘Paul Revere’s Ride’, a poem written in 1860 by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, with Paul Revere’s letter to Jeremy Belknap, written in 1798. The letter should be more reliable as it is a primary source.
