They have a passion for teaching, a commitment to understanding and educating every learner. They work tirelessly to achieve inclusive classrooms with socially just academic outcomes through socially just pedagogies and assessment (Gilbert, Keddie, Lingard, Mills, & Renshaw, 2011). There is no room for any sort of racism or deficit thinking from our teachers (McCrea, 1999 & Malin, 1990) and they are vigilant in the classroom and school to prevent students from discriminatory acts. Due to our schools low socio economic demographic and high ratio of Indigenous students, the school also encourages professional development in these areas. Specialised PD will be given to four LSA’s for early intervention support in numeracy and literacy for struggling students. Training will also be given to a teacher and a learning support assistant (LSA) for the Stephanie Alexander community garden.
The students needing extra support or program will be referred to the community hub and placed in suitable programs. The community engagement officer will be the face of the community hub and co-ordinate all the different programs and links to the community. This includes but not restricted to parents helpers and parental run and supported programs; Gugan-Gulwan programs and support; PCYC programs and support; linking the community with excursions for small groups ( eg: skate park for BMX skills day); community events as well as directing outside assistance for the Stephanie Alexander community
