Congestive Heart Failure Congestive Heart Failure (heart failure) is a disease that affects nearly 640,000 people every year. It is when the heart doesn’t pump enough blood throughout the body, causing the body not to get all the oxygen and other nutrients it needs to sustain itself. The heart becomes weak and with that the chambers of the heart feel they need to adjust. They will either widen thinking that that will help the blood move through the body, or they can stiffen. With this the heart muscles weaken. (1) There are many different causes for Congestive Heart Failure. It can either happen as a “latest-stage” result of one or more heart problems. This leave areas around the artery injured and scarred and causes it not to function properly. This can easily turn in to Congestive Heart Failure. (3)
Coronary Artery Disease affects the arteries and they produce slow blood flow to the heart. The heart eventually will not get all the nutrients and oxygen it needs resulting in heart failure.(3) So many different organs are affected from Congestive Heart Failure. The heart pumping blood throughout the body is how every organ survives because that is how the body gets the oxygen and nutrients it needs. Without receiving those nutrients, the organs can no longer function right and in turn lead to even more problems with the body. Some organs affected by Congestive Heart Failure are, the lungs, the kidneys, and the heart valves.(2) When the kidneys are affected it stops them from being able to remove any extra water your body has. This can cause swelling in different areas of your body such as your legs, ankles, and feet. Normally this is referred to as edema.(2) How the lungs are affected is cause by the blood flow going into the lungs. This happens because the heart cannot pump its normal amount of blood through the body. This causes the lungs to fill with fluid and make it hard for you to
