During the Constitutional Convention of 1787, our founding fathers decided on creating the Electoral College. The framers of the Constitution didn’t trust direct democracy. One idea the Constitutional Convention considered was to have the Congress choose the president. A second idea was to have the State legislatures select the president. A third idea was to have the president elected by a direct popular vote.
