Jackson's Life Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States of America, was known for some controversial decisions, but more so his life leading up to his presidency. Jackson was a beloved war hero who fought at the port of New Orleans and supposedly won the war for America. Even though America did not actually win that war, Jackson won that battle and became a war hero and later the president. But before all of that, Jackson was just a kid going to fight in the Revolutionary War. Andrew Jackson grew up poor as his father died before he was born and he was raised by a single mother. As the revolutionary war came, Andrew and his brother went to fight for America, but they were both captured by the British and held in a war prison. …show more content…
Their mother came to the prison and begged the British to let them out, saying how they were just little kids and they were foolish. The British ended up letting the Jackson brothers out, but their mom only brought one horse. Andrew’s brother ended up riding the horse as he was in much worse condition than he was and Andrew had to walk a long distance while having smallpox. By the time they got home, Andrew’s brother had already passed and he was in critical condition. Soon after, his mother passed away as well, so Andrew was left all alone. He later became a slave owner on a plantation and a lawyer as well. All of these events helped Jackson prepare for his presidency from resenting the British because of his war history, to having a unique perspective on the state of America by being a lawyer and slave
