In Cormac McCarthy’s novel ‘the road’ we are introduced to a world much different from our own. The novel is set in southern united states where it is a colourless cold wasteland. It is about a loving father and his young son trying to survive in this deadly post-apocalyptic world. The father and son head south on a road hoping to find a better place to live but they are struck with many life-threatening situations on their way.

This straight away gets our attention and we are put on the edge of our seat. Throughout the book cannibalism is evident. The son describes the cannibals as the ‘bad guys’ with himself
