But yesterday is all that counts’ ” (227). These words have found a different and more important meaning inside of me as I progress through the journey of personal growth, going through school, and self-discovery. When I was growing up, I used to think that everyday was a clean slate, and that with a new day, the past was life behind. A particular experience that revealed to me the true meaning of yesterday was when I was just a freshman in high school. Throughout middle school, I often struggled with self-confidence, and was constantly comparing myself to people who I thought were better than me. I felt inferior to most everyone else and I was scared to break out of my comfort zone. My parents would always tell me, ‘Eamon, in high school you are going to really need to step out of your comfort zone and make some friends”. I thought I had friends, but I was wrong. Everything changed one day when I tried out for the Elkhorn South High School show choir as a freshman. I finally found my friend group and the people I belonged to. I stepped out of my comfort zone and changed my path forever. Now as a senior in high school, I am still friends with the show choir classmates, all thanks to the past. I now realize my past triumphs and struggles I went through as a middle schooler and freshman, trained me to be resilient and shaped me into a new person. Once I stepped out of my comfort zone, I now have a new found confidence and self-image that I never had
