Cornerstone Summary:
Second graders will become activists, studying character traits of well-known activists from around to the world and digging deep within themselves to reflect on their values to identify what is important to them in their school and neighborhood communities. Students will conduct research on character traits of great leaders analyzing their motivations to bring about change for people in the world. Synthesizing information from multiple sources students will identify a problem in their school or neighborhood community and take action to solve it.
Overview:
Throughout Unit 5, students researched and learned about different activists from around the world. Reading historic fiction texts, students were able to explore well known activist’s values and how they used their values to take action to help people or things in their communities. Activist are people who take action to bring about social, political or environmental change to their community or places around the world. Second graders will use their research of historic activists from Take Action unit to identify character traits of leaders, in order to identify a problem in their community, determine action steps, and take action to solve or change their problem in their school or neighborhood community.
