I first noticed a crash cart containing emergency resuscitation equipment for patients who may "code." The emergency equipment includes a defibrillator, airway intubation devices, a resuscitation bag/mask, and medication box. Crash carts are strategically located in the PCU for immediate availability for when a patient experiences cardiorespiratory failure.
There are two major classes of drugs used to promote comfort in a surgery as well as PCU setting, which includes a sedative-hypnotic agents and opioid analgesics. They provide sedation and analgesia to the patient.
