I learnt that critical life events can create non-normative stress such as death of a loved one, divorce and retrenchment. It acts as experiences that disrupt an individual's usual activities, causing a substantial change and reorganising and readjustment of roles and function. The needs and challenges that associates with critical life events also have to meet with the positive coping strategies and resources.
These critical life events will force family member to take on new roles and adjust. These adjustments that has to be encountered will impact the family functioning and deviate them from the optimal family functioning. Critical life events can have both positive and negative effects that can span the rest of life.
